Hi, my name is Jón Helgi. I'm a Product & Interaction designer based in Reykjavík Iceland.
I graduated from the Icelandic Academy of the Arts in 2012 with a bachelor degree in Product Design, followed by a master degree in Interaction Design in 2015 from Malmö University.
Three words that describe me as a designer: Environmentalist, Minimalist & Challenge Seeker.
I love working on diverse projects - although a red thread in my designs are usually; flat-pack, modular, functional & minimal. My aesthetics are influenced by Scandinavian minimalism although often futuristic and designed to be fully user customizable.
I'm the lead designer, and one of the founders of Genki Instruments, a design driven technology company that strives to make technology feel natural. Additionally I do freelance work and work on my own designs and art projects.
I've received numerous awards, including the Icelandic Design Awards, the Red Dot Design Awards, the Grapevine Design Awards, the FÍT Awards, and been nominated to a Cannes Lions and Epica Awards.
My work has been published in multiple magazines and books and showcased at design exhibitions around the world. Publications include; Wired, Bo Bedre, Dwell, Blueprint Magazine, Techchrunch, The Verge and more. I've done freelance work for companies such as IKEA, Norðursalt, the City of Reykjavík and FÓLK Reykjavík.
Finally I'm a part time teacher at the design department of the Icelandic Academy of the Arts.
